Smartphone technology has come a long way. From 512MB RAM a little over a decade ago, the average RAM for phones in 2023 is somewhere around 4GB while 16GB RAM is the standard for flagship phones (some of these phones have more RAM than your PCs, wild, right?). Beyond the RAM, the processor also plays an important role, and sometimes, your use case might be significantly more resource-hungry than your phone can handle, inevitably, your phone will lag. Lagging, colloquially known as “hanging”, is characterised by delays in touch responsiveness, apps freeze, and slow performance. If you experience any of these, here are six things you can do to fix the problem.
Restart your Phone
Restarting your phone is the simplest and quickest solution to try when your phone is lagging. To restart your phone, simply hold down the power button until your phone turns off, and then turn it back on again. More often than not, this simple trick will fix your phone.
Clear the Cache
Cached data can slow down your phone by hogging system resources that your applications to run efficiently. To clear your phone Cache, go to Settings > Storage > Cached data, and tap on it to clear Cache.
Disable Animations
Animations can make your phone look nice, but they can also slow it down especially if you are using a budget smartphone. To disable animation, go to Settings > Developer options and scroll down to find the Animation section. Disable any animations that you don’t need.
Update your phone
Keeping your phone updated can help improve its performance. Go to Settings > System > Software update to check for any available updates.
Perform a Factory Reset
A bug might be responsible for the lagging you experience, one of the most potent ways to fix this is to perform a factory reset. However, we recommend that you back up your files before performing a factory reset as you will lose all your files after the operation.
