THE VR/AR HEADSET FOR THE 1%, Sad Day for iPhone X owners, and More News from Apple’s WWDC 2023

Apple’s events have always been renowned for their iconic nature, with meticulous attention given to set designs, transitions, and other crucial intricacies that make the presentations truly memorable. True to form, the 2023 WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) lived up to expectations, delivering an array of exciting announcements. Here are some of the standout highlights from the event:

Introducing the Apple Vision Pro

First and foremost, let’s address the  $3500 elephant in the room! Apple has made its long-awaited entry into the AR/VR market. While Meta (formerly Facebook) has heavily invested in the metaverse, virtual and augmented reality platforms and products have largely remained niche, attracting only dedicated enthusiasts. However, this is all about to change. Apple has officially joined the fray with the introduction of the Apple Vision Pro. Unsurprisingly, Apple refers to it as a device for spatial computing (their fancy term for AR and VR). Early glimpses from videos and promotional material depict awe-inspiring hardware. If you happen to be reading this in Nigeria, brace yourself as the Apple Vision Pro comes with a hefty price tag of almost 3 million Naira. The good news is that it won’t be available until next year, so you have over six months to start saving up.

The 15-inch MacBook Air

Rumours had been circulating that there was a considerable demand for a 15-inch MacBook Air, and Apple has finally responded to these desires. The new MacBook is equipped with the M2 chip, a liquid retina display, up to 18 hours of battery life, a fanless design, and a remarkable six-speaker sound system. Apple boldly claims that this new device is the best 15-inch laptop in the world, and it’s hard to argue against such a compelling proposition.

iOS 17: A Major Update

In other exciting news, iPhone users were treated to the announcement of a new OS update at WWDC. Unfortunately, the highly popular iPhone X and iPhone 8 have reached their End of Life (EOL) and will not receive Apple’s iOS 17 update or any future OS upgrades. If you happen to be an iPhone X user, you can take advantage of the Oga Bassey swap deal by clicking here or visiting any of our outlets in Yaba and Ikeja. iOS 17 brings a host of new features, including some that have been available on Android for a while. Additionally, many features are focused on enhancing safety and privacy. We will delve into a comprehensive review of these features in a separate blog post. Oh, and one more thing—summoning Siri no longer requires saying “Hey Siri”; a simple “Siri” will do. Well done, Apple!

New iPadOS and Mac Pro

iPad users were not left behind; they also received an operating system update tailored specifically for their devices. However, the other exciting news revolves around the new Mac Pro. The Mac Pro has always exemplified Apple’s commitment to extreme performance, and the latest iteration takes it to a whole new level. Powered by the state-of-the-art M2 Ultra chip, the new Mac Pro offers astonishing capabilities, with the highest-end configuration boasting a staggering 76-core GPU and 192GB of memory. While the physical design remains consistent with the 2019 Xeon-powered model, the new Mac Pro provides expanded options for expansion and significantly enhanced processing power.

The New iPhone: Coming in September

As for the highly anticipated new iPhone, we’ll have to wait until September for its unveiling. But we have all the rumours and insider information covered right here. Stay tuned!
